Associate in Science Degree in Medical Imaging

Our Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Diagnostic Medical Sonography curriculum will prepare you to become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. The 83 credits of didactic and clinical coursework will give you the skills you need to be a competent sonographer.

The A.A.S. in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is designed for students who wish to qualify for career as a Sonographer, also known as Ultrasound Technologist. In only two years, our program will prepare you to secure your American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) credentials, then begin entry-level work in the abdomen (AB) and obstetrics / gynecology (OB/GYN) specialty areas of Sonography. Through a combination of coursework and clinical practice, students will receive a solid grounding in the fundamentals of general Sonography, as well as a range of essential healthcare topics such as anatomy, pathology, patient care, ethics and more. Students will have ample opportunity to master their technical skills during hands-on training at various hospitals and medical centers throughout the city. The program also features instruction in advanced specialties such as Vascular Sonography and Advanced Sonography. Our A.A.S, degree track is not only a direct, expedited gateway to a promising entry-level position in the healthcare field - it is a springboard from which many possible specialized career paths can follow.


A diagnostic medical sonographer is a highly skilled medical imaging professional who uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of organs, tissue and blood flow.

Being an ultrasound technologist is an especially rewarding career in the healthcare industry. Ultrasound technologists work closely in tandem with other members of the healthcare team. Technologists interact and work closely with patients to obtain and deliver prompt images to aid in diagnoses.

Diagnostic medical sonographers work in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics, labs, academia, private offices and industry. Sonographers are a part of the medical team of professionals who provide essential clinical information used to provide essential patient care.
